PANCAKE DAY

 PAT-A-CAKE, PAT-A-CAKE

Pancake Day, which is celebrated in the UK with fun, games, and of course a lot of eating,
is approaching.
This traditional nursery rhyme is one of the oldest and most widely known surviving
English nursery rhymes. It is often accompanied by hand-clapping between two people (a
clapping game) but this time we are going to use the song to make Play Dough pancakes.

Pat a cake, Pat a cake, Baker’s man
(Pat hands on the desks as though kneading the dough.)
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Pat it and shape it and mark it with B

(Use a pencil to score a letter in Play Dough pancakes.)
And bake it in the oven for baby and me.
(Hands placing the pancake in an imaginary oven.)
Note: The “B” and “baby” in the last two lines can be replaced by the child’s first
initial and first name.

Pat a cake, Pat a cake, Baker’s man
(Pat hands on the desks as though kneading the dough.)
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Roll it up, roll it up;

(Move the hands on the desks as if rolling Play Dough.)
And throw it in a pan!
(Move hands as though throwing the pancakes in a pan.)
