A project about the water in a Roman town called Augusta Emerita. 

We have made a project about the water way in the Roman Mérida.
We drew nine  roman monuments related with water.  After this, we looked for information about them and we wrote some small paragraphs in English.
We are learning French, too. So we translated into   French, too.
Of course, we couldn´t forget our nice native language so we wrote them in Spanish.

School day

Today we celebrated school day in the school playground. The topic was: The Middle Age.
We danced, drew, painted, played, through balls to the dragon...

It was a fantastic day. Congratulations to all of you.

St. George´s day

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland uses as its national flag the royal banner known as the Union Flag or Union Jack — technically the latter term, although the more common name for the flag, refers to its use as naval jack when flown at sea. The current design of the flag dates from the union of Ireland and Great Britain in 1801. It consists of the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), edged in white, superimposed on the Cross of St Patrick (patron saint of Ireland), which are superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland). Wales, however, is not represented in the Union Flag by Wales' patron saint, Saint David, as at the time the flag was designed Wales was part of the Kingdom of England.

Today was Heritage day. In Mérida each school has to adopt a monument. We have adopted "The our Lady of Antigua chapel" which is near to our school.It is obviously how we got our name.

    Today we celebrated with  a medieval market

situated near the monument. The goal was to involve our   community  so that we all can learn to appreciate  the monuments left behind by our ancestors.

THE CHAPEL "NTRA. SRA. DE LA ANTIGUA".
     The Chapel "Ntra. Sra. de la Antigua" is one of the most famous building of the city. It has survived  many difficult situations.
    The emeritense historian, Moreno de vargas, wrote History of Mérida city in 1633, in which tells that the monastery Ntra. Sra. de la Antigua of the barefoot friars of Saint Francis Order was founded in 1576. Firstly, it was situated in The Santisima Trinidad Chapel, but as it had lack of water, later the monastery moved to the Sumptuous Antigua Chapel in 1578.
   

  The image of the Virgin was in the altar. People were very devoted to the Virgin and she was taken into procession, in which all the city took part. They asked for rain to the Virgin in order to avoid diseases and epidemics.
     The chapel was away from the city so the spiritual life was centred in religious services of the friars and some acts that took place in certain festivities.
     The chapel has always had problems with the floodings of the Albarregas river. In 1638, one of theses floodings brought down the walls of their gardens. This chapel had a large cloister convent, whose remains are still preserved. The convent became hermitage again when friars left it.
During years it was in private hands, then it was renovated in 2006 and it became a place of cultural events. Some years ago was ceded to the Catholic Church.
I     n 2011, The School " Ntra Sra de la Antigua"  adopted the Chapel of " Ntra.  Sra. de la Antigua".

¡Hola chicos! 
He querido hacer una entrada con lo que Caitlin nos enseñó de su viaje a Dublín. Ahora conocemos un poquito más ese pequeño, pero precioso país, que es Irlanda.

I had an incredible time there!  Dublin is a city rich with history ranging from the Celtic tribes to Viking influence to producing some of the most famous authors to date.  I went to many museums and learned a lot about Ireland and Dublin which was so fascinating and thoroughly enjoyed my time there.  I unfortunately was unable to photos of what I saw inside the museum since it was prohibited but I will describe the highlights of my trip as best I can.

My first day there I went to Trinity College which is well-known for its library and Book of Kells exhibit.  The Book of Kells is a manuscript of the Four Gospels from the New Testament from the year 800.  It is considered to be one of the most important Irish manuscripts because the technique and decorations are so precise and so masterfully crafted.  It is the epitome of Celtic design including Celtics knots and interlacing.  The book is also a wonderful example of calligraphy.  It was written on vellum which back then was calf-hide and inks and dyes that they used were made of semi-precious stones like lapis lazuli for that rich blue.

A St. Patrick´s poster.

Uno de los proyectos eTwinning que se llevan a cabo desde el área de ingles es: St. Patrick´s day in European schools. Cómo se celebra el día de St. Patrick en los colegios europeos. No es el primer año que lo hemos celebrado, pero quizá este año hemos puesto más entusiasmo. El proyecto terminaba con la creación de un poster que incluyera nuestro trabajo realizado.

DIANA TEMPLE Building belonging to the city municipal forum. It is one of the few religious character which is preserved in a satisfactory state. According date written on the theater itself its construction occurred in the years 15 to 16 a. C. ROMAN AMPHITHEATRE Construction popular taste over the theater, was opened at 8 a. C. This building was intended for gladiatorial combats between beasts and men and beasts. ROMAN CIRCUS With its 400 m long and 30 m wide, was the one who enjoyed the favors of a given audience excitement that educated plays. Due to its size was outside the city walls, next to the road that linked Emerita in Corduba (Cordova) and Toletum (Toledo). BRIDGE GUADIANA It can be considered somehow as the origin of the city and in any event, which marks its en ROMAN HISPANIA (Beatriz)

Desde estas líneas quiero a agradecer a dos personas:

* Caitlin Velázquez  (nuestra auxiliar de conversación)
* John Wilmott (Un Irlandés, del que los niños hablan como si fuera alguien del centro, o de su   
familias, debido a su carácter afable y simpático)

Ambos han hecho posible que St. Patrick´s day haya sido una experiencia que difícilmente olvidaremos.

De dos maneras totalmente distantes nos han ido introduciendo en este mágico día. Hemos aprendido:
- Quién era St. Patrick. John no sólo nos lo ha contado, también nos ha regalado el relato con su voz.
- Hemos aprendido a bailar danzas irlandesas de la mano de Caitlin.
- Comimos  Colcannun. John con sus habilidades culinarias nos enseñó cómo cocinarlo. A propósito estaba delicioso.
- Y a ambos tuvimos la oportunidad de entrevistarlos ( en inglés por supuesto) y conocer un montón de cosas sobre  ellos. A Caitlin, en persona y oralmente; a John, a través del blog y por escrito.

Tampoco quiero olvidar a D´andre, (realmente no sé si su nombre se escribe así) pero todos sabéis quién es, el novio de Caitlin. Con su simpátia y su perfecto inglés Neoyorkino, participó también activamente el día de St. Patrick.

Y por supuesto a mi querida compañera Silvia,  que a pesar de que día tras día tiene que trabajar con una persona hiperactiva,  nunca se altera ni pierde su sonrisa.

A todos ellos, en mi nombre y en el de mis alumnos y alumnas agradeceros vuestra desinteresada y maravillosa participación.

eTwinning

   Me gustaría hablaros de un proyecto que desde el Colegio se está llevando a cabo:eTwinning  

    eTwinning es un programa europeo diseñado para que los profesores se conozcan, compartan ideas y trabajen juntos creando una comunidad en red.

Intentar describir eTwinning en pocas palabras es casi imposible por la multitud de posibilidades que ofrece. Resumiendo podríamos decir que eTwinning:
- Fomenta el contacto y no requiere procedimientos burocráticos.
- Ofrece reconocimiento a través de los premios, de su red de embajadores y de las conferencias.
- Ofrece herramientas, apoyo y oportunidades para el desarrollo profesional.
- Vela por la calidad de sus actividades tanto en cada país como en Europa, otorgando Sellos de Calidad.
- Facilita múltiples vías de apoyo.

Uno de los primeros pasos para iniciar el viaje por eTwinning es buscar con quién asociarse para trabajar en un proyecto. Encontrar  alguien compatible puede llegar a ser todo un reto.

Los proyectos son actividades creadas desde dos países europeos como mínimo, gestionadas a través de herramienta informática TIC (alumn@s y profesor@s)  y convertirlas en parte integrante del día a día del aula.

En nuestro Centro, actualmente,  estamos desarrollando 4 proyectos eTwinning. Tres de ellos desde el área de inglés.
1.- Inventive world of English vocabulary.
2.- What a beautiful town
3.- St. Patrick´s day celebration in European Schools.

El primero lo está llevando a cabo el grupo de 6º en el área de inglés. Nos adherimos a un grupo (Rumania-Polonia-Turkia-España). Empezamos a trabajar en diciembre y en la revista digital que aparece en la biblioteca virtual del blog ( Parte superior del blog) puede verse parte del trabajo elaborado por nuestr@s alumn@s.

El Segundo es un proyecto que ha sido fundado por nosotros en colaboración  con: Fatima Duerden. Teacher in Dog Kennel Hill School, London, Reino Unido (Por cierto,  deciros que me gustó el hecho de saber que era un colegio bilingüe, y que por supuesto su segunda lengua estudiada era el español).
     También, en otra revista intento ir recogiendo algunos datos de cómo se está desarrollando el proyecto, aunque por supuesto,  lo concerniente a nuestro trabajo sólamente.
      Actualmente en este proyecto participan junto con nosotros 35 colegios de 15 diferentes nacionalidades (unos son más participativos que otros, por supuesto). De nuestro Centro participan  grupos de alumnos de todos los niveles, incluido infantil.
    Como su nombre indica, consiste en presentar nuestra ciudad, utilizando la lengua inglesa como eje común de todos los Centros. Para cada mes se programaron una serie de temas, y cada centro va presentando sus trabajos. Algunas veces, y esto es lo ideal, interactuamos, es decir, creamos una base virtual común. Ya no es sólo presentar nuestro trabajo como centro, sino trabajar en grupo con otros centros y crear una producción común.
    Los chic@s están encontrando "pendfriends" en muy variopintos lugares de Europa. Y todo ello les está aportando un aprendizaje sociocultural de otros países y culturas que resulta muy satisfactorio, a la vez que llevan a cabo un aprendizaje real e in-situ (aunque sea virtual) del idioma inglés.
Como muestra os dejamos una de las primeras actividades que desarrollamos juntos: El Carnaval. (Lo podéis encontrar en la siguiente entrada, llamada "Our beautiful town carnival".

- Del Tercero, St. Patrick, os diré que es un intercambio de experiencias y documentación de cómo celebramos St. Patrick´s day en nuestro Centro. Buscad en el blog y encontraréis todas las actividades que nuestros alumnos han ido desarrollando durante dos semanas y que han puesto en común el día de St. Patrick ( que nosotros celebramos el 19, por razones técnicas).

                     Espero que a partir de ahora, todos conozcamos un poquito más qué es eTwinning,
Cómo se trabaja en esta plataforma, y lo más importante qué están haciendo nuestros alumnos en algunos proyectos.
